About Me

- Name: Essex Kite Group
- Location: Essex, United Kingdom
Believed to be the oldest surviving kite flying club in the country, ESSEX KITE GROUP can trace its origin back to 1976, when Clive Rawlinson enlisted others at a B.K.F.A meeting at Old Warden to form his own local group. Since that time, membership numbers have fluctuated from highs of almost two hundred to present-day figures of around fifty. Support from a nucleus of stalwart members has ensured regular meetings every two or three weeks throughout the year. The majority of our fliers are of retirement age, content with their single-line kites, but we also have a younger element with two-line sport kites, buggies, etc. A development over recent years has been a call for us to conduct kite workshops for children at schools, activity events and village festivals. This has provided valuable income for the Group which now has a very sound financial base.
